Privacy policy

Honest dating needs honest handling of your data. Here is what Spark collects, why, and how to get rid of it.

Who we are

Spark is a dating app for adults aged 18 and over, operated by the developer of the Spark app. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use Spark, whether in the app, the mobile builds, or at sparkmatchs.com.

What we collect

  • Account details: your email address and password. Passwords are stored securely hashed by our authentication provider, never in plain text.
  • Profile details you choose to give us: first name, age, gender, who you are looking for, city, job title, a short bio, interests, and any photos you upload.
  • Activity: the profiles you like, pass or super-like, your matches, and the messages you send.
  • Membership details: which plan you are on and its status. Card details are entered directly with Stripe and never reach our servers.
  • Device data needed to run the app: your device and app version, and a push notification token if you allow notifications.

Why we use it

  • To show you people nearby and keep your deck relevant to your preferences.
  • To create matches, deliver messages, and notify you about new messages and matches.
  • To run free daily limits and any Plus or Gold membership you have purchased.
  • To keep the app safe: preventing fake accounts, abuse and under-18 use.
  • To fix problems, understand which features are used, and meet our legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your messages or photos for advertising.

What other people see

Other members see your first name, age, city, bio, interests, photos and online status — the contents of your profile. Your email address, password, swipes and payment details are never shown to other members. Messages are visible only to you and the person you matched with.

Who we share it with

  • Our hosting and database provider, which stores the app's data on our behalf.
  • Stripe, which processes membership payments and subscription billing.
  • Our push notification service, which delivers notifications to your device.
  • Law enforcement or regulators, only where we are legally required, or where it is necessary to protect someone from serious harm.
  • A buyer or successor, if the app is ever transferred or sold, in which case this policy continues to apply until you are told otherwise.

Cookies and local storage

Spark does not use advertising or tracking cookies. We store a sign-in token in your browser or device so you stay logged in, and we remember small interface choices such as your current filters. Clearing your browser data or the app's storage signs you out.

How long we keep it

Your profile, photos, likes, matches and messages are kept while your account is open. When you delete your account, they are removed immediately. Some records may be retained longer where we must keep them for tax, accounting, fraud prevention or legal reasons, and backup copies are purged on our provider's normal backup cycle.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time from Profile, using Delete account. It signs you out and removes your profile, photos, likes, matches and messages for good. This cannot be undone. Deleting the app from your device does not delete your account.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, restrict or delete your information, to object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent for notifications. Most of this is available in the app. To make a request, contact us at the developer email address on our Google Play listing. If you are in the UK or EU, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

Security

Traffic to Spark is encrypted in transit. Access to member data is restricted and governed by rules that keep one member's data away from another's. No online service is perfectly secure, so use a strong, unique password and tell us if you think your account has been accessed by someone else.

Age limit

Spark is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that someone under 18 has created an account, we delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how Spark handles your information, we update this page and change the date below. Significant changes will be announced in the app.
